Gold is the currency you play for in AscendMMO. You earn it by fighting, from lucky finds and by selling items, and you spend it on shop goods, meals, repairs and gear upgrades. You start with 20 Gold. The second currency, Jade, is mostly bought and pays for the membership; small amounts of bound Jade also come from the Login calendar and from opening a Geode.
Where does Gold come from?
Section titled “Where does Gold come from?”- Monsters. Every win pays a random amount of Gold within the monster’s range. Fleeing or losing pays nothing. The zone boss and elite enemies from random events pay far more than normal monsters.
- Random events. After each gathering or meditation run there is a 6% chance for an event, more with Luck. One of them is a hidden chest with Gold, which holds more in the Mistfen Marshes. Others give items or an elite fight.
- Scene finds. Now and then something glints in the scene of your zone. Click it before it vanishes. Some finds are Gold, and the amount grows with your level. There is a daily limit. See Scene finds.
- Dungeon chest. The chest of the Sunken Shrine holds Gold, materials and one piece of gear.
- Selling. Loot, crafted goods and gear you don’t need sell to the NPCs in the village. See Selling.
- Other players. Once trading unlocks, you can sell items to other players in the Auction House and sell Jade for Gold at the Jade exchange.

What do you spend Gold on?
Section titled “What do you spend Gold on?”- Shops. Food at the inn, potions at the Herb Hut, gear at the Smithy and tools at the Market Stall. See Shops.
- Meals. At the inn you can eat a meal for 5 Gold. It restores 50% of your max HP, once every 5 min. Sleeping at the inn is free.
- Repairs. Your worn gear loses durability in every fight. See Repairs and durability.
- Upgrades. Raise gear up to +15 for more stats, paying Gold and later
Ember Shard. See Upgrades.
- The marshes. The ferry to the Mistfen Marshes costs 25 Gold, a night in a stilt hut 10 Gold, and the Stiltwater Trader charges marsh prices. See Mistfen Marshes.
- The coast. The Coast Road to the Saltwind Coast costs 15 Gold, and Rest in the Lighthouse costs 10 Gold. See Saltwind Coast.
- Dungeon keys and incense. Once your free entries are used up, a
Sunken Key buys another run of the Sunken Shrine.
Clarity Incense raises your breakthrough chance.
- Trading and guilds. The Auction House takes a listing fee and a sales tax, the Jade exchange a fee from the seller’s Gold. Founding a guild, upgrading its hall and the weekly upkeep cost Gold as well.
- Bags, resets and courses. The Satchel maker at the Market Stall enlarges your bags for Gold. After the free weekly attribute reset, further resets cost Gold. Courses at the Academy of the Five Phases cost Gold too (the first rank of Elemental Infusion costs 2,500 Gold).

Tips and common mistakes
Section titled “Tips and common mistakes”- Fight at your level. Higher-level monsters pay more Gold and EXP, but defeats cost you time, durability and leave you Weakened. A monster 5 or more levels below you gives only 20% of its EXP (see Leveling).
- Watch the scene. Scene finds are free Gold, EXP and items while you wait for an action.
- Sell before you travel. NPCs only buy in the village; the Stiltwater Trader in the marshes and the Lighthouse Keeper on the coast only sell.
- Keep a reserve for repairs. Broken gear makes the next fights much harder.
- Don’t upgrade everything. Put upgrades into the gear you will keep for a long time.
