Repairs and durability

Weapons and armour you wear lose durability in every fight. At zero the piece is broken and gives no stats until the Smithy in Dawnmere Village repairs it for Gold.

After every fight, each piece of gear you wear in a slot that wears loses durability. A defeat costs extra. Gear in your backpack does not wear.

A broken item stays equipped but gives no stats at all — no attack, no defence, no attributes — until it is repaired. You also can’t upgrade a broken item. Broken items are marked Broken in your inventory.

You repair at the Smithy, one item at a time or everything at once. The cost is the share of missing durability times the item’s value times a factor. Rarer items cost more (per rarity step above Common), and so does each upgrade level. The result is rounded, and a repair costs at least 1 Gold.

Formula

gold = round(value × missing durability share × 0.9 × (1 + 25% × rarity steps) × (1 + 5% × upgrade level)), at least 1

Example: Repairing a Common Leather Vest +0 at 25/50 durability costs 14 Gold.

Two places in the mountains repair like the smithy, at a markup: the armoury of Castle Acula (×1.25 the price) and the Temple (×1.25).

Everywhere else, a Whetstone is the only way to repair. Use it from your inventory (not during a fight); it restores durability to the weapon in your main hand.

  • Repair before it breaks. The cost only depends on how much durability is missing, so repairing often costs the same as repairing rarely — but broken gear leaves you without its stats.
  • Carry a Whetstone for long trips away from the village. The Stiltwater Trader and the Lighthouse Keeper sell them too.
  • Avoid defeats. A loss costs extra durability on every worn piece and leaves you Weakened.
  • Upgraded gear costs more to repair. Keep that in mind before you upgrade gear you wear all the time.
