Selling

This page was last checked against game version 0.2.1; the game is now at 0.3.0. Some explanations may be out of date (tables are always current).

You sell items to the NPCs in Dawnmere Village through the Sell tab of any shop there. Every item has a fixed NPC price that is much lower than what shops charge. Better rarity and upgrade levels raise the price.

Every item has a base NPC price. It is well below the shop price, so buying something just to sell it again always loses Gold. The NPC price of every item is in the item list and next to each shop’s goods in Shops.

For gear, the price then goes up with its upgrade level and its rarity, and the result is rounded:

Formula

gold = round(value × (1 + 10% × upgrade level) × (1 + 75% × rarity steps above the item's base rarity))

Example: A Rare Wooden Sword +3 sells to an NPC for 81 Gold.

How do rarity and upgrades change the price?

Section titled “How do rarity and upgrades change the price?”

Loot and crafted gear can roll a higher rarity than the item’s base. Each step above the base adds the same bonus; the table shows the multiplier for items whose base rarity is Common. Items that are already rarer by default only count the steps above their own base.

Upgrades add their bonus on top, and both multiply each other. A rare, upgraded weapon can be worth several times its base price.

Plain gear that drops as grey (Common) loot is marked Grey in your inventory. While your bag holds some, the inventory shows a Sell all grey button. It lists the total first and sells every grey piece at once, in the village only.

It never sells equipped, locked, bound, upgraded or crafted items, items from the family vault, or gear you bought or got as a reward. Materials are never grey, so the button does not touch them.

  • Equipped items. Take them off first.
  • Locked items. Use Lock in your inventory to protect an item from selling, including the Sell all materials button. Locked items are never used up either — not by crafting, not by upgrades and not in a fight, so don’t lock the potions you want to drink.
  • Quest items such as Memory Fragment. They have no NPC price.
  • Don’t sell your only tool. Hunt Rabbits needs a knife like the Rusty Knife, Fish in the Mire a Fishing Rod, chopping wood a Hatchet, mining a Pickaxe. If you try to sell the last tool for an action, the game warns you (“Sell your only tool?”). If you sold it anyway, buy a new one at the Market Stall.
  • Keep upgrade materials. Ember Shard and Spirit Herb are worth more to you at the Smithy than as Gold.
  • Keep crafting inputs you need. Selling a material and buying it back later costs more than you got.
  • Use Sell all materials with care. Lock the stacks you want to keep first.
  • Sell rare gear you don’t use. Its rarity bonus makes it one of the best Gold sources.
